Sultan Hasan Mosque II

The entrance way to Sultan Hasan mosque. The picture does not in the least capture the tremendousness of the building's height. The scalloped ceiling is a common motif in Islamic architecture and is interpreted by some to be a representation of principal of creation: the emanation of the many from the One, or a reminder that despite all the apparent multiplicities of the world that meet our eye, if we lift our gaze upwards we discover an inherent unity.
